Shock Wave Therapy

Shockwave:

Here at Windrose we are constantly adding to our clinical tools. One of our latest additions is Shockwave Therapy – an evidence based modality that can help heal tissue and relieve pain associated with many different conditions and complaints.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Now, you might be wondering “what the heck is a shockwave therapy?”. Well, the short and long of it is, it is a tool that can speed up healing in the body by stimulating the metabolism and increasing blood flow to regenerate damaged tissue. So basically, it will increase inflammation in the area where it is applied, to help increase tissue healing.

Now that’s what is happening on a cellular level, but what is it exactly that you are feeling? The tool itself is a wand-like object that is applied against the skin and delivers strong energy pulses for short periods of time. This results in a feeling that some describe like an elastic band snapping or a hammer.

What conditions can Shockwave Therapy treat?

Shockwave has many uses, but common conditions include, but are not limited to:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tendonopathy

  • Frozen shoulder

  • Stress fracture

  • Scar tissue

  • Shin splints

  • Tennis elbow
